The CABLEGNOSIS Consortium is pleased to invite you to the second webinar of the CABLEGNOSIS webinar series, focusing on the recyclability and sustainable development of materials used in power cables.
The webinar will bring together experts from HUMEA and the University of Southampton, CABLEGNOSIS project partners, who will share their latest insights and research on recycling approaches and sustainable materials for power cable applications.
The programme will also feature a guest presentation from the Horizon Europe project NEWGEN, delivered by Minna Niittymäki, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tampere University, who will present the main results and achievements of NEWGEN in the field of next-generation HVDC cable insulation materials.
The webinar will provide an opportunity to exchange knowledge on recycling, sustainable materials, and next-generation cable insulation systems, while highlighting ongoing European research and innovation in the field of power cable technologies.

About the Speakers
Dr György Bánhegyi has extensive expertise in polymer science, polymer Engineering, and polymer nanocomposites. After earning his university degree in chemistry from Eötvös Loránd University (1980) and completing post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Massachusetts, he built a distinguished research career spanning multiple institutions and roles as researcher and leader. His professional experience includes leadership roles at the Research Institute for Plastics, Furukawa Electric Institute of Technology, Zoltek Rt. and Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd., specialising in polymer characterisation, carbon fibre composites, and electrical insulation materials. He is an established private consultant in the plastics and chemical industries. He holds five patents, has authored over 30 international journal publications with 500+ citations, and served on the editorial board of eXPRESS Polymer Letters.
Dr Richárd Cselkó completed his master’s degree and PhD in electric power engineering at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He is currently an associate professor and the vice-head of the High Voltage Laboratory at the same institution. His fields of interest include insulation diagnostic techniques, partial discharge measurements and statistics-based maintenance planning applied to industrial power systems, electrical safety of linemen on high- and medium-voltage power lines, and electrostatic processes. He was the founding chair of the IEEE Budapest University of Technology and Economics Joint IAS/PES Student Branch Chapter (SBC) and is currently its advisor. He was a member of the organising committee for several IEEE technically or fully sponsored conferences. He is a member of several CIGRE and IEC working groups.
Dr Orestis Vryonis is a New Frontiers Fellow at the University of Southampton, UK. He received a B.Sc. in Materials Science (2012) and a M.Sc. in Polymer Science & Technology (2014) from the University of Patras, Greece. His Ph.D (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow) was accomplished (2019) in Electronics & Electrical Engineering at the University of Southampton, UK. His main research interest is polymer engineering & science, particularly development of advanced materials targeted in high voltage insulation and renewable energy applications
Minna Niittymäki received her M.Sc. (Tech.) and D.Sc. (Tech.) degrees from Tampere University (formerly Tampere University of Technology) in 2012 and 2022, respectively. Since 2012, she has been a member of the High Voltage Engineering research group at Tampere University. With nearly 15 years of experience in high-voltage engineering, her expertise encompasses electrical insulation materials and systems, as well as the development of advanced dielectric materials and characterization methods. Her current research focuses on insulation systems, with particular emphasis on the dielectric characterization of novel polymeric materials for various applications.
