CABLEGNOSIS Research Presented at ICHVE 2026

The CABLEGNOSIS project was represented at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application (ICHVE 2026) through the participation of researchers from ICCS – National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). The conference took place in São Paulo, Brazil, from 20 to 25 September 2026.

The team presented the paper “Study on the Improvement of Current-Carrying Capacity of 320 kV HVDC Cables with Extruded Insulation”, investigating how cable design and improved insulation properties can enhance the current-carrying and power transfer capability of submarine and underground HVDC cables.

Using electromagnetic and thermal simulations, the study highlights the importance of enhanced insulation performance, particularly for submarine HVDC links, to enable higher transmission currents and support the integration of offshore renewable energy.

The paper was authored by Afroditi G. Skoura, Panagiotis A. Kamtsios, Eleni P. Nicolopoulou, Nicoleta C. Ilia, Christos A. Christodoulou and Ioannis F. Gonos.
